The Enterprise Prompt Checklist
Eight checks we run before pointing an agent at any operations task. The same discipline OpenAI used to prove a fifty-year-old math conjecture, written down as a pre-deployment checklist.
For operators and IT leaders deploying AI agents.
Summary
OpenAI hand-wrote two pages of instructions for one hard problem. Your operations run on hundreds. Before we deploy an agent on any of them, we run these eight checks — the difference between an agent that ships work and one that produces confident nonsense.
The eight checks
- 01 Task statement
What is the task, stated in one plain sentence?
- 02 Acceptance criteria
What does done look like, and does partial credit count?
- 03 Approach portfolio
Is more than one approach on the table, or is everything chasing the same idea?
- 04 Blocked routes
Which routes are dead ends, and are they written down so no one retries them?
- 05 Adversarial check
Whose only job is to break the work before we trust it?
- 06 No status theater
Are we getting proof it worked, or a confident summary?
- 07 Persistence floor
Did it push through the hard part, or stop at the first edge case?
- 08 Escalation
When it hits something outside the lines, where does it hand off to a person?
